Investing in People When the Market Gets Strict
Why I chose to add people and strengthen our structure just as many companies were pulling back: integrity and legal compliance are an organization's moat.
Lately I have spent most of my energy adding people and restructuring the organization at HOPE CORP. Looking at the economic cycle, many ask: "Why expand your resources while policy is tightening and companies are pulling back?"
The answer lies in staying clear-headed about the times, and in the conscience of someone who takes their craft seriously.
Real value is what remains after a tightening cycle
A tightening period is a harsh but necessary filter. Policy may shift to support recovery, but it is never a safe zone for borrowed value or a lack of honesty. The era of quick fixes with no solid foundation is closing, giving way to real value. To me this means a company heading in the right direction will gain more opportunity, and my job is to make sure we always stay on that course.
Adding people to run a system with real standards
As the market becomes more demanding, professionalism and integrity stop being optional and become the standard for survival.
I chose to invest in people just as the market slowed, because I need colleagues who are not only skilled but also share compassion and respect for the law. Building the team is also how I create a living compliance moat that backs the company's commitments to customers and to regulators.
Stillness to build the organization's foundation
While many were preoccupied with worries about economic variables, I chose a quiet period to strengthen our internal capacity. I believe that once the roots are deep, the systems are sound and the person at the helm is upright, the economic cycle is just a wind testing the steadiness of a large tree.
We do not chase fleeting, flashy numbers. We are building an ecosystem in which safety and transparency are lasting commitments.
Closing
I am grateful for the turbulence that helped me see my path more clearly. Strengthening resources while the market is quiet is how we prepare for an era in which only real value endures.
Pursuing Right Livelihood (Chánh Mạng) may be a lonely road, but it is the only one that leads to longevity.
