A bug report, my Japanese friends, and the global dream behind the IKI app
A bug report from Japan, and why the IKI app supports three languages from day one: roots at home first, branches abroad later.
Last night my phone buzzed with a message from Japan.
A close friend, someone who stood beside me for more than seven years in Japan, sent a screenshot of the IKI app with a few rough spots circled in red. His message was short: "The app is usable, but this part feels a bit laggy. Keep polishing it. When will the Android fix be out?"
When you build technology, a bug report usually brings tension. This one warmed me instead. It told me that thousands of kilometers away, there are still people trying the app and quietly standing behind what I have built.
One sentence that reached deep
By coincidence, I have also just reconnected with a few Japanese friends who studied information technology with me at Sojo University in Kumamoto. I only meant to ask about the market there and whether we could collaborate on something. After reminiscing about our student days, one of them closed with a very sincere line: if the chance comes, it would be good for us to work on something together again.
That line touched something deep in me. It is also the answer to a question people often ask: why does a health app built mainly for the Vietnamese market include English and Japanese from the very beginning?
Three languages, three meanings
It is neither excess nor haste.
- Vietnamese is the source, where I want to contribute the most real value.
- Japanese is my thanks to the place that shaped my youth, and a bridge for me and my old friends to turn "let's work together" into reality.
- English is ambition.
From the first lines of code, IKI has carried a global dream. A dream of reaching the open sea is a grand one, but we chose to grow like a tree: root deeply, build a decent product, serve the needs of users at home first, and only then extend branches abroad. Supporting three languages from the start is the foundation stone for that long road.
No product is perfect from the start
Looking back at that circled bug, I remind myself and the team: no product is perfect from the starting line.
IKI is still being built and improved every day, including AI tuning and continuous upgrades. The latest update, especially the fixes and optimization for Android users, is being finalized to deliver a smoother and calmer experience.
Thank you to my friend for spotting the bug last night. Thank you to my Japanese friends who keep their arms open. And thank you to everyone using IKI who is not afraid to give frank feedback when the app falls short. Your high standards are the most valuable nourishment IKI has for growing up every day.
