A founder's five fronts: from fundraising strategy to operating discipline
What a founder does in the days before Tet: coordinating five workstreams in parallel, reading the numbers rather than doing the team's job.
Today is 10 January 2026. If someone asks what a founder does in the days before Tet, I would show them the picture of five fronts I am coordinating in parallel:
- Capital: finalizing the fundraising deck and drawing up a list of prospective angel investors to connect with.
- Product: locking the core product lineup for the opening sales campaign of 2026.
- Operations (marketing and sales): examining performance indicators closely so that every marketing dollar returns the most sales.
- Legal: reviewing and finalizing last year's tax figures to ensure transparency.
- People: approving the HR plan for the new year.
I do not do the sales team's job for them
Some ask: with such close attention, do you sell directly? The answer is no. Advising customers and closing orders is the sales team's stage, and I respect their role. My job is not to close individual orders but to stand behind them and shine a light:
- On marketing: are the incoming leads of good quality? Is the cost per lead running too high?
- On sales: what is the conversion rate? Why are customers dropping off?
I stay close so the machine does not jam, not so I can jump in and do the details myself.
The role of the conductor
At this stage a founder is like a conductor. The left hand leads the "future" orchestra: fundraising and the 2026 strategy. The right hand keeps time for the "present" orchestra: sales, tax and people.
I believe investors look at more than a good idea. They look at operating discipline: a founder who has a firm grasp of every number and understands the company's health from the big picture to the small details, not one who hands everything off and waits for reports.
Ready for the next step
The workload of these year-end days is the best stamina test there is. Everything is falling into orbit: the fundraising deck is sharp, the marketing and sales machine is running at high performance, and the HR and tax plans are clear and transparent.
We are ready to welcome strategic partners and a breakthrough year in 2026.
